Summons for Circulating Fake Video

The Delhi Police has summoned Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in connection with a controversial video featuring Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The video, shared on social media by the Telangana Congress, was accused of being doctored using deepfake technology.

In the authentic version, Shah expressed the BJP's stance on Muslim reservation in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, while the manipulated clip distorted his words, making it seem as if he advocated for abolishing all reservations, including those for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.

The summons were issued following a complaint by the BJP, alleging that the dissemination of the doctored video aimed to incite communal discord. The Delhi Police also registered an FIR against unidentified individuals for sharing the manipulated video [38], which led to notices being served to various individuals, including Reddy, who posted the video. The case was filed under sections of the IPC and the IT Act, with investigations ongoing to identify those responsible for creating the manipulated video.
